Machinist III

1. Work on tasks per JTS Book

2. Performs repair work on all types of rotating equipment: reciprocating compressors, gas, diesel and steam turbines, vertical and horizontal pumps, manual and motor-operated valves. Work assignments are in field or shop.

3. Machinists manufacture, repair, and rebuild parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals and metal alloys such as stainless steel alloys, aluminum, titanium, magnesium and other materials such as rubber, plastics, and nylon through the use of conventional or computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools and precision handwork.

4. Machinists receive work assignments from the supervisor that are accompanied by blueprints, sketches, drawings, models of parts, or other work specifications. In some work situations, the blueprints or drawings may have missing or incorrect information.

5. They independently determine the work procedures, machine tools and attachments to be used, and the sequence of machining operations.

6. They are responsible for laying out their own work, accurately computing and checking dimensions and tolerances, setting up the job in the machine, and selecting the proper tools to achieve the desired dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.

7. Plans and layout work.

8. Makes parts to close tolerances.

9. Determines own speeds and feeds.

10. Completed work is checked for conformance to specifications and accepted trade practices.

11. Sets up and operates all the standard machine tools.

12. May provide technical assistance to lower grade workers.

13. Performs skilled work in the making, fitting, assembling, and disassembling of machines, apparatus, equipment, and sub-assemblies thereof.

14. Read and interpret specialized drawings, sketches, diagrams, shop mathematics, charts, tables, and handbook formulas in precious manner.

15. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by his direct supervisor
